From Classroom to Career: AdLab Alumni Show Us What’s Possible

On April 23rd, AdLab had the absolute pleasure of welcoming back six incredible alumni for an unforgettable panel packed with advice, real-world insights, and a whole lot of inspiration. Brandon Cohen (Graphic Designer at BJ’s Wholesale ProDesign), Morgan Macphee (Associate, National Video Investment at Dentsu), Rose Huang (Strategist at Mediaplus Group North America), Sara Hirani (Marketing Transformation Analyst at Accenture), Reed Cory (Marketing Coordinator at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum), and Mary Corbin (Paid Media Strategy Associate at Wayfair) joined us to share how AdLab helped shape their paths and what lessons they have learned since stepping into the industry.

Each panelist brought their unique journeys to the table, showing just how many different directions a career in advertising, marketing, and media can take. From graphic design to consulting, and music to e-commerce, their stories reminded students that there is no “right” path, and that sometimes the most unexpected turns lead to the biggest growth.

One major theme that kept coming up? Don’t stress about having it all figured out right away. Brandon shared how being open to new opportunities, even ones that felt a little outside his comfort zone, helped him build a career that blends creativity and strategy. “The best moves are often the ones you do not see coming,” he told Adlabbers.

Morgan echoed that idea, reflecting on her leap into media investment. She emphasized the importance of flexibility and curiosity. “Every job, every experience teaches you something valuable, even if it’s just what you want to do differently next time.”

Sara and Rose doubled down on the power of being proactive. Whether it’s driving strategy at Mediaplus Group or transforming marketing at a consulting powerhouse like Accenture, both emphasized the value of raising your hand, speaking up, and showing that you are ready for a challenge, even if you are still figuring it out along the way. As Sara put it, “You do not have to be perfect. You just have to be willing to learn.”

Reed and Mary brought fresh perspectives from their worlds of music and e-commerce and highlighted just how far the skills you build at AdLab, like collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving, can take you across industries.

Another piece of advice that struck a chord was how important your network is, and how BU will always be one of your strongest ones. The panelists stressed how meaningful it is to stay connected to the people you meet here because classmates, professors, and mentors can quickly become colleagues, partners, and champions down the line. As Mary put it, “Never underestimate the BU network. It’s powerful.”

The visit was a vibrant reminder that success is not about following a straight line. It’s about staying curious, leaning into opportunities, and building relationships that lift you higher. Our alumni showed us that with grit, creativity, and a little boldness, there is no limit to where your AdLab experience can take you.

A huge thank you to Brandon, Morgan, Rose, Sara, Reed, and Mary for coming back to share your wisdom and journeys. We are proud to call you part of the AdLab family and even more excited to follow everything you will do next!
